about

Liberchies was the village in southern Belgium where Django happened to have been born in and 'I Awake' in brackets beforehand is a literal translation of his actual name in Romanes (Gypsy language). I chose for this track to have a Celtic feel as the music of the region of Belgium that Django happened to be born in is generally Celtic in sound. There is also a subtle underlying reference to the Anglo-Celtic-Indigenous music influences and sound of the landscape that I heard as a child coming from Australia which can be most obviously heard in the opening and closing violin/accordion 'doina'.
