about

The last track of the album 'Koblenz' was recorded very spontaneously on a balcony with Lulo Reinhardt at his former apartment in Horchheim and on careful listening one can even hear the sounds of the birds - of Koblenz - in the recording. This track was recorded quite lo fi on Lulo's laptop computer but the feeling and spontaneity is what is important. This track is about me and my connection to Koblenz, it is about Lulo and his family (particularly his late father Bawo who was always incredibly kind to me and passed away suddenly in 2013) and it is also a reference to the history of this city and the region and the enormous underscoring complexity of life there given that city's unique history and cultural significance, It is most importantly - as implied by the subject matter of the entire album - an anthem dedicated to the Reinhardt family in Koblenz, who have been so good to me for so long and who I am very close to. The melody of this final track is melancholic, peaceful and beautiful and alludes to the natural environment. Koblenz is flanked by two major river systems - the Rhine and the Moselle whose colours decorate the album artwork- and it is surrounded by high hills, vineyards and forests along with many medieval ruins. The melody also has a reference to 'The Maestro' in the 'B' section which is a light hearted reference to the heritage of Django and also a reference to being creative and thus inspired.
