about

This track is a homage to Django and to the musicians of the 1920s and 1930s who played these waltzes - along with many other popular dances of the time - in the Bal Musette halls as well as an underlying tribute to my grandfather who was also from the artistic scene in 1920s/1930s France. Django's first gigs in his early teens included regular jobs as an accompanist in the 'Bal Musette' halls which were notorious for their often seedy and/or bohemian clientele. Bal Musette was a term for the waltzes first made popular in the 1920s (which were often heard in Bal Musette halls) and many Manouche were known to be fine accompanists for these waltzes, often adding a dark 'Gypsy' touch to this style of music.
